The EP-400 Epstein Tester is a fully automatic AC magnetic testing instrument designed for accurate evaluation of flat-rolled magnetic materials such as CRGO, CRNGO, and other electrical steels. Developed in compliance with ASTM A343, IEC 60404-2, and BIS 649, the EP-400 provides reliable and repeatable measurement of core loss, magnetizing force, permeability, and other critical magnetic parameters used in transformer and motor core manufacturing.

Designed for production quality control, laboratory verification, material certification, and advanced R&D applications, the EP-400 combines high measurement accuracy with simple operation. It supports testing of both as-sheared and stress-relief annealed specimens, making it suitable for complete magnetic performance evaluation across manufacturing and development environments.

The EP-400 features a crystal-controlled sine wave generator (35 Hz to 200 Hz) that delivers distortion-free and harmonics-free excitation power for highly stable testing conditions. Built-in precision digital meters—including Flux Voltmeter, RMS Voltmeter, RMS Ammeter, Peak Ammeter, Wattmeter, and Power Factor Meter—ensure long-term measurement stability with excellent accuracy.

Epstein Frame Testing for Accurate Magnetic Analysis

The EP-400 operates using the internationally recognized Epstein Frame Method, where test strips are placed into a standardized Epstein bridge (1kg) and magnetized under controlled AC excitation. By applying the wattmeter-ammeter-voltmeter method, the instrument automatically calculates key magnetic parameters such as Watt/kg, Watt/lb, VA/kg, AT/m, magnetizing force, and permeability, providing complete magnetic characterization of the test specimen.

Users can enter specimen parameters such as weight, length, density, induction, frequency, and eddy loss percentage directly through the keypad or via the supplied PC software. Once the test starts, results are displayed instantly on the LCD, reducing operator effort and improving test speed.

With its USB connectivity and dedicated Gopal Magnetic Tester V4 software, the EP-400 can perform 11-point induction testing in approximately 10 minutes and automatically generate PDF reports with complete curves and analysis including B/W, B/VA, B/H, permeability, and hysteresis characteristics.

Flexible User Mode for R&D and Custom Core Testing

Beyond standard Epstein testing, the EP-400 includes a dedicated User Mode for custom magnetic testing of EI cores, toroidal cores, transformers, ring cores, and other non-standard geometries. In this mode, users can manually set voltage and frequency while monitoring live parameters such as flux voltage, RMS voltage, current, peak current, watt, and power factor.

This makes the EP-400 especially valuable for research laboratories, material development centers, transformer manufacturers, and calibration facilities where custom magnetic analysis and comparison testing are required.
